Time

Strange Days Books has just published Time, a collection of the winning stories from the 4th annual Eyelands International Short Story Contest.

A story of mine, Lamb with Rosemary, is included in the 70-page volume, along with stories by other writers from England, Greece, Lithuania, Cyprus, Scotland, and the United States.

Lamb with Rosemary is, if nothing else, a cautionary tale about how NOT to cook a holiday meal.

It's All Greek to Me

A story of mine has been short-listed for the 4th Eyelands International Short Story Prize. As such, it will appear in an anthology of the winning works to be published by Strange Days Books this December. An independent publisher based in Crete and Athens, Strange Days publishes books in both English and Greek. This one will be in English.

My thanks to Gregory Papadoyiannis, the editor of Eyelands, and also Marie Psoma-Petridou, a Greek novelist who judged the competition.

The story, Lamb with Rosemary, takes place on a Greek island which, although unnamed, is much like Skopelos, a beautiful island off the eastern coast of Greece where I once spent an idyllic summer as Artist-in-Residence at The Island Center for the Arts.

My apartment at the top of Skopelos Town overlooked the blue Aegean and spectacular sunsets. There was grilled fish, octopus, calamari and retsina in the tavernas. I carried around none of the angst deviling the protagonist of Lamb with Rosemary.
